Voice Matters

David Howard - tenor, Frances Brock - soprano, Julia Haigh - soprano

Voice Matters is a vocal trio that specialises in bringing live vocal music to schools. Its three members: Frances Brock and Julia Haigh, sopranos with David Howard, tenor bring a wealth of singing, performing and teaching experience.

Julia Haigh, soprano spends her time combining her roles as a singer, a qualified primary teacher and advisory class music teacher, a mother, a promoter of children’s concerts and her own business of teaching pre-school music classes. She enjoys the variety of these skills and has always enjoyed sharing her enthusiasm for music and particularly singing, with children of all ages. She has recently completed short courses with The Voices Foundation and in Dalcroze Eurhythmics.

Frances Brock, soprano performs regularly as a singer and pianist. She has taught in primary schools since 1978, and currently works as a peripatetic instrumental teacher for North Yorkshire County Council.

David Howard, tenor is a professor at the University of York. As well as an interest in music technology he researches the singing voice. He sings on a regular basis, directs the Beningbrough Singers, sings as a deputy tenor at York Minster and plays both the organ and piano. David is often asked to give talks on the singing voice to organisations such as the British Voice Association and the Association of British Choral Directors.
