Saturday 23rd August:
Sorry, all tickets for this excursion have now been sold!
Christopher Alden’s urgently contemporary production gives Puccini’s melodrama a specifically political edge, portraying the truth of human relationships ships - at their best and at their worst - with uncompromising force.
Rafael Rojas (from Mexico) as Cavaradossi and Robert Hayward (came to Sowerby Music in 1993) as Scarpia.
Set in modern Italy, the soprano Tosca loves Cavardossi; the Chief of Police, Scarpia, is obsessed with Tosca and love and betrayal destroys them all. The music is at times soaring and tender and at other times harrowing and heartbreaking.
Sung in Italian with English titles. Lasts approximately 2 hours 15 mins.
