The Peter Chase Award gives financial support to talented young musicians in Sowerby Music’s catchment area.

Stephanie Libby

I have had a wonderful final year with Yorkshire Young Musicians (YYM), with some exciting performances:

  • In February I performed ‘In Ireland’ by Hamilton Harty at The British Flute Society School Performer competition in London. It went well although I was not a prize winner and I enjoyed listening to the best young flute players in the country
  • My final concert with North Yorkshire Schools’ Wind Band was at an open air venue in Northallerton which contrasted to my last appearance with North Yorkshire Schools’ Symphony Orchestra in Selby Abbey, when I had the experience of performing the Faure Fantaisie with the orchestra.
  • At Sowerby and at The Ryedale festival I represented YYM playing both solo (Martinu Sonata) and as part of a trio.

I am so grateful for the financial support of the Peter Chase Award. I have learnt so much through YYM, not only improving my playing and musicality but also my communication and ability to perform to an audience. I've also had loads of fun and made lasting friendships.

I am about to take up my place at Manchester University to read a degree in music.
