David Howard tenor, Frances Brock soprano, Julia Haigh soprano

Voice Matters is a vocal trio that specialises in bringing live vocal music to schools. Its three members bring a wealth of singing, performing and teaching experience.

Julia Haigh soprano spends her time combining her roles as a singer, a qualified primary teacher and advisory class music teacher, a mother, a promoter of children’s concerts and her own business of teaching pre-school music classes. She enjoys the variety of these skills and has always enjoyed sharing her enthusiasm for music and particularly singing, with children of all ages. She has recently completed short courses with The Voices Foundation and in Dalcroze Eurhythmics.

Frances Brock soprano performs regularly as a singer and pianist having trained at the Royal Academy of Music. She has taught in primary schools since 1978. She has performed as a member of the Beningbrough Singers several times for Sowerby Music concerts. As a talented painter, Frances recently exhibited her work at a North Yorkshire gallery.

Dr. David Howard,  tenor is a professor who lectures in the Department of Electronics at the University of York. As well as an interest in music technology, he is an expert on the analysis and natural synthesis of singing and speech. He was the presenter of a BBC 4 TV programme ‘Voice’ in 2008 when he explored what humans can do with their voices. David’s own music making includes playing the organ and piano, singing as a Deputy Tenor Songman at York Minster and directing the Beningbrough Singers.
