From concerts secretary Graham Merriam

Wow! I do not think anybody that came to hear Ksenija Sidorova – and there were 130 of you – can fail to have been moved, surprised, amused, entertained, impressed or any combination of the aforesaid. For me, she fully justified my enthusiasm and those that have fallen in love with her charm may form an orderly queue behind me. She will, no doubt, reappear at some point in the future.
And now, to close the first “half” of our year I offer up:
6pac Jazz Sextet
Gavin Barrass Bass, Kenji Fenton Saxophone, Russell Bennett Trumpet and Flugel
Richard Wigley Trombone, Ben Gray Drums, Andrew Stamatakis-Brown Piano
‘Irrefutable evidence that jazz is still a vibrant, creative force’
Manchester Evening News
SUNDAY 12th February 2012, 3.00pm
There are many of you that saw the whole Sextet some years ago and asked that they should return at some point and I know that, buried in our regular audience, there is a hard-core of foot-stompers that has a deep-seated love for jazz and all its connotations.

6pac never disappoint and those of you that support and liaise with Pat Elton on Music for Life will have witnessed the utterly professional, joyous and committed approach that their Trio (Ben, Andy and Gavin) bring to the schools.
At this point, I have no more idea of their programme than they do – it is all I can do to extract a running order from Ben AFTER the concert so that I can notify PRS for our quarterly return. We know we will get virtuosity – cast your minds back to Kenji’s sax solos and Ben on drums – and we know that there will be a lot of standards bearing their own versatile stamp. Need I say more?!
We have featured a jazz concert for some years now and the evidence is that it is still hugely popular. Some of you are not jazzers and do not come but, by the same token, we see a great number of people that only come out for jazz – which all goes to show what an eclectic world we inhabit. Give it a try.
Best wishes
