A message from your chairman

Dear Sowerby Music Member

Last year, to mark our 21st Birthday, we felt it was an opportune time to find out what our Members really think about Sowerby Music and how the Society can make itself as attractive as possible to ensure its viability for the next 21 years. So all 240 on the mailing list were sent a questionnaire. 140 replied and a lot of valuable information has been provided to enable the Committee to focus on one or two areas and do things even better.

Some of the key points …

About our Membership

  1. We have 345 members
  2. 88% of members are over 61 years of age
  3. A quarter of our members live over 10 miles away from Sowerby
  4. A quarter have been associated with the society for over 16 years

About our Concerts

  1. 98% rate our concerts as Excellent or Good in terms of value for money. The rank order of descriptors about our concerts were (top down) good value, entertaining, varied, friendly, interesting, professional and welcoming
  2. A degree of preference was expressed for more illustrated musical lectures, piano soloists and chamber orchestras and for rather less contemporary music, folk music and brass soloists
  3. A preconcert meal facility at Oswalds is attractive to 50 members

About our Communications

  1. We have 64 potential new Patrons who need to have the scheme explained to them
  2. Many members would have the monthly letter via email if they had realised the facility existed or got round to requesting it
  3. Credit card purchase of tickets via the internet would be of value to some

About our Young People

  1. Half of our members would consider inviting a youngster to a suitable concert

About our Excursions

  1. The most attractive excursions are considered to be operas and large scale orchestral events

So what actions have we taken already?

  • Graham is working to ensure that future concert programmes take heed of the expressed preferences whilst delivering great value and excellent quality
  • Concert tickets can now be purchased by credit card from this website just by following the ‘Box Office’ links
  • To encourage youngsters, a series of three Saturday afternoon special concerts have been set up under the banner Calling all Kids!
